2014 San Gabriel Valley Water Forum: “Are We Ready?”
On October 4, 2014, an estimated 350 water professionals, community leaders, elected officials, educators, students, business leaders, labor unions, environmental groups and employers of all kinds discussed a vast array of water supply reliability related issues facing the San Gabriel Valley, now and into the future.
The current, serious drought is demonstrating the potential to create extreme conditions for our water supply, environment, public health and economy. Not only are we faced with water supply shortages, but other significant drought-related impacts are on the horizon. The 2014 San Gabriel Valley Water Forum helped attendees understand and answer these questions:
Are we ready … for water shortages?
Are we ready … for flooding resulting from El Niño?
Are we ready … for fires?
Are we ready … for earthquakes that could damage the Delta?
Are we ready … for job losses?
Are we ready … for economic impacts (e.g., rising costs of water, food, business)?
The 2014 San Gabriel Valley Water Forum, “Survival Kit” included a variety of solutions: water conservation, water supply solutions (recycled water, imported water, storm water capture, desalination), rationing, price increases, public education, legislation and a potential Water Bond on the November 2014 ballot.
A detailed program and supplemental booklet providing bios for all the speakers can be accessed immediately below. Additional event information can be found on the San Gabriel Valley Water Forum’s website.
