Upper District and Cal American Tap into the Source

MONROVIA, CA – Today, the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (Upper District) held a ribbon cutting for two recently installed water bottle fill stations at the California School of the Arts, San Gabriel Valley, located in Duarte, CA. Upper District partnered with California American Water, the local retailer, to install the two units with the goal of reducing plastic bottle waste and promoting the benefits of drinking from our local water supply.

The Water Bottle Fill Station program was approved by the Board of Directors in June of 2018 as part of its overall outreach program. Keeping with the Board’s strategic goal of promoting watershed awareness and conservation outreach, the pilot program will install 10 water fill stations throughout Upper District’s service area at designated schools, libraries, or community centers. This is the first of ten installed, the second unit at this location was installed in partnership with California American Water.

Upper District’s directors Jennifer Santana and Dr. Anthony Fellow were joined by Mayor Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, Councilmember Liz Reilly and Duarte Unified School Boardmember Ceci Carroll for the ribbon cutting. Students, faculty and administration were in attendance.

“I am excited to unveil the first station in my division and hope that the students will embrace the change of using refillable water bottles and inspire positive behavioral changes that promote water conservation” said Director Jennifer Santana. “I also thank California American Water for partnering with us in providing a second water station for the high school.  It has been a great collaboration.”
