Sustainable Landscape Demonstration Gardens in the San Gabriel Valley
Five sites were selected with the intent of reducing the sites’ water footprint by installing high-efficiency irrigation equipment and water efficient plants. Sites were constructed in visible and accessible public locations to provide a focus point for the community and a demonstration of sustainable landscaping. These projects also demonstrate the benefits of on-site storm water retention and capture. Click here to view the locations of the demonstration gardens.

Locating sustainable gardens in easily accessible public locations plays a key role in raising awareness and educating the public about water efficient landscaping. Selection of participating sites was based on factors such as: public visibility, potential water savings, feasibility of converting the landscape, construction restrictions, as well as the site owner and local retail water provider’s commitment to participate.
